Fire and Climate Resilient Islands: Bozcaada and Gökçeada
Project Description
The ecological dynamics of the islands, which contribute significantly to global biodiversity with their high endemism rates, are more sensitive than the mainland, and if they are not prepared for possible threats, it is inevitable that the entire ecosystem will be rapidly destroyed even in a relatively small crisis and the island population will suffer economic losses.
The project, funded by The Turquoise Coast Environment Fund – Turkey (TCEF), aims to i) assess the direct and indirect effects of the global climate crisis such as drought on plant and vegetation structure, ii) develop ecological restoration recommendations for island ecosystems after fire, and iii) develop nature-based solutions for the protection of island biodiversity by comparing the dynamics of the two island ecosystems.
